[ARCHIVED] Clark County to apply for $600,000 in federal funds for local improvement projects

SPRINGFIELD, OH (June 5, 2020) – The Clark County Community and Hennigan Drive in Madison Twp.Economic Development Department is applying for about $600,000 in federal grant dollars for three local improvement projects.

The Board of Clark County Commissioners approved a federal Community Development Block Grant allocation of about $268,000 at Wednesday’s meeting. The money will be used to demolish a former school building in the City of New Carlisle and pave a roadway in Madison Twp.

About $173,000 in federal grant dollars will be used to demolish the pre-1900 Madison Street school, 600 W. Madison Street in New Carlisle, in order to remove blight from the neighborhood. About $40,000 in federal dollars will be used to pave The former Madison Street School in New Carlisle.Hennigan Road in Madison Twp.

The board also recently approved a grant application for more than $333,000 to the state’s competitive critical infrastructure fund program to pave and alleviate drainage issues on Fenwick Drive in New Carlisle.

“These grants are extremely important to the community,” said Community and Economic Development Director Ethan Harris. “They breathe value and pride into neighborhoods that need road, drainage and beautification improvements.”

A portion of the CDBG money will also be used to educate residents about fair housing rights and responsibilities.

The County expects to hear if the projects are approved by the state in early fall.
