Clark County LEPC to host training event Aug. 3

SPRINGFIELD, OH (July 31, 2018) – The Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee is hosting a training event at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3 in the parking lot of Springfield Regional Medical Center, 100 Medical Center Dr. in Springfield.

The training will involve a simulated vehicle accident with a hazmat spill staged in one portion of the parking lot at SRMC.

“We take training very seriously,” said Clark County Emergency Management Agency Director Lisa D’Allesandris. “It’s important to be prepared for any type of situation. We want to make sure that all agencies are prepared to work together when a real emergency strikes here in Clark County.”

Civilian, military, EMA, hazardous materials, ambulances and fire vehicles will be staged at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning at the NTPRD Chiller, 301 W Main St. All apparatus will be moved to the parking lot at SRMC by 9 a.m.

A simulated accident and hazmat scene will be staged in one portion of the parking lot. The other portion will hold the decontamination set up. The event will include simulated injured victims and fake blood. EMS crews will triage and assist injured victims.

All victims will then be sprayed with water and decontaminated by fire personnel before they are handed over to SRMC.  The hospital will also be training as part of the exercise, performing decontamination procedures and medical triage on the simulated victims.
